Shrewsbury Town Sign Conor McAleny
The Deal
Shrewsbury announced via their website they had signed the striker. McAleny arrives on loan for the remainder of the season.
Sam Ricketts is looking to add more firepower to his attack and McAleny can certainly score goals. The striker began his career at Everton but struggled to make the breakthrough at Goodison Park.
He has spent time playing for Kilmarnock in Scotland as well as Oxford United and Fleetwood. The striker has fallen down the pecking order at Fleetwood and is hoping Shrewsbury can give him the playing time he wants.
The striker is eligible to make his debut this weekend when Shrewsbury play Rochdale.
What Was Said
Speaking to the Shrewsbury website about his move, McAleny said: “I am delighted, and I can’t wait to get going now. I just want to score as many goals as I can and play as many games as I can.
“I’ll be taking it game by game and we will see where we end up in May. I feel good, I feel fit and I’m in a good place. I’m just ready to hit the ground running now. I am familiar with a few of the lads so I’m sure I’ll settle in pretty quick.
“I’m attack-minded and like to make things happen. I work hard for the team and hopefully I can chip in with a few goals here and there.
“The training ground is a great set-up; I was really impressed. The gym is great and it’s just a great set-up – I just want to get going now. I have set myself targets; I think every player sets their own little targets. I’ll let you know if I hit them at the end of the season.”
Manager Sam Ricketts added: “He’s a player with real big ability. I’ve known of Conor for about four years now – he’s had some good spells at Wigan and Oxford.
“He has real quality, can score goals, can assist and works hard. He’s been unlucky in that his career hasn’t really ignited. He has really good ability on the ball. Graham worked with him at Wigan but he’s someone I have known about for a number of years.”
