Bristol Rovers have made their third January signing. The Gas have signed winger Josh Ginnelly on loan from Preston for the rest of the season.
Bristol Rovers Sign Josh Ginnelly
The Deal
Bristol Rovers announced via their website they had signed the Preston winger. Ginnelly arrives on loan for the remainder of the season.
He has struggled for game time at Preston since arriving in January 2019 making a handful of appearances. Ginnelly made a name for himself at Walsall making 25 appearances for the Saddlers.
Ginnelly provides width for Bristol Rovers and so much needed creativity and pace. He is primarily a left-winger so expect to see him on the Rovers’ left-hand side.
He could make his Bristol Rovers debut this weekend when the Gas travel to league leaders Rotherham.
What Was Said
Speaking to the Bristol Rovers website about his move, Ginnelly said: “When I met up with the Gaffer and he told me his plans going forward I liked the sound of them – that’s why I’ve signed.
“I’m glad that he’s keen to work with me and the boys to turn bad results into good ones!”
Ginnelly reunites with former Walsall teammate Luke Leahy, who joined the Gas in the summer following Walsall’s relegation to League Two.
Josh Ginnelly is Hoping to Get Back to His Best
It’s been a difficult year for Ginnelly following his move to Preston. The winger has struggled to break into the Preston team, meaning his game time has become severely limited.
He arrived with so much promise after a terrific spell at Walsall. However, he has only made a handful of appearances under Alex Neil.
This move to Bristol Rovers will give Ginnelly an opportunity to play football and help Bristol Rovers get back to winning ways.
Its been a transitional period for Rovers following Graham Coughlan’s departure and Ben Garner’s arrival. The Gas have sunk to mid-table having been fourth when Garner took over.
Ginnelly will be determined to get back to his best as Rovers look to pull themselves back into the promotion race.
