Bradford City have made their first January signing. The Bantams have signed goalkeeper Luke McGee on loan from Portsmouth for the rest of the season.
Bradford Sign Luke McGee
The Deal
Bradford announced via their website they had signed the goalkeeper. McGee arrives on loan for the rest of the season.
McGee will replace Richard O’Donnell who is set for a lengthy spell on the side-lines with injury.
The Portsmouth keeper has struggled for game time with Craig MacGillivray becoming Kenny Jackett’s number one.
McGee could make his debut this weekend when Bradford face Yorkshire rivals Scunthorpe at Valley Parade.
What Was Said
Speaking to the Bradford website about his move, McGee said: “It feels really really good to be here and I cannot wait to get going.
“As soon as I got the call it was somewhere, I knew I wanted to come, with the size of the club and fanbase.
“I want to bring as many clean sheets as possible to help the lads perform, win as many games as we can and climb the league table.
Manager Gary Bowyer also offered his thoughts about McGee’s move: “We are delighted at being able to bring Luke in and thank Portsmouth for allowing him to join us.
“He brings experience of playing in Sky Bet League One – in front of big crowds.
“We look forward to welcoming and working with him.”
McGee an Excellent Replacement for the Injured O’Donnell
Bradford were dealt a huge body blow with Richard O’Donnell’s injury. The keeper has been outstanding for Bradford this season.
However, Luke McGee is certainly an excellent short-term replacement. The keeper brings plenty of experience despite only being 24.
He is used to the pressure of playing for a big club. McGee is also a reliable goalkeeper having kept 22 clean sheets in 83 League One appearances.
An excellent decision by Bradford to bring in McGee. He will certainly hope to keep the number one spot once O’Donnell returns from injury.
