Peterborough United Sign Sammie Szmodics on Loan From Bristol City
What Was Said
When speaking to the official Peterborough United website, manager Darren Ferguson said: “One thing that we have done is be very consistent in our targets.
“We have had to an extra few months for the three we have brought in during January. We respected Sammie’s position, very much like Reece’s to go to the Championship, sometimes when you make the jump from League Two it can be difficult to get starts and that has proved to be the case.
“Sammie is a very good player. He can play anywhere in the middle of the park in the attacking areas, he is predominantly one that will play centrally. I am really looking forward to working with him. He is one that I have liked for a long time. I am absolutely delighted to get him into the building.”
Lack Of Game Time Leads To Loan
The 24-year-old joined Bristol City last summer but has made just four appearances since making the move to Ashton Gate.
He made his debut for the Robins in a First Round defeat to Queens Park Rangers in the Carabao Cup; he has struggled since then, with his last appearance coming as a substitute against Blackburn Rovers on December 14.
Szmodics began his career at Colchester United and became quickly renowned as an excellent attacking midfielder. Last season saw him score 15 goals, a career-best tally.
However, his lack of appearances show that he has struggled to make the step up from League Two to the Championship.
Peterborough currently sit ninth in League One and travel to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, where Szmodics could make his debut. The Posh will be hoping to regather some momentum in their hunt to return to the Championship.
