A winding-up petition against Bury has been dismissed by the High Court. The petition related to an unpaid tax bill but an HMRC lawyer has told the Insolvency and Companies Court that a debt has been paid.
High Court Dismisses Bury’s Winding-Up Petition
Details
Bury were expelled from the EFL in August, after their first League One game against MK Dons and the Carabao Cup round one match against Sheffield Wednesday were suspended. It leaves League One with 23 team this season.
There was no detail given in court about how much it was that Bury owed. They were previously given a 35-day extension in October after lawyers argued that time was needed to establish whether they had paid too much tax.
After a prospective buyer for the club pulled out of negotiations in October, it looked as though the club were on the brink of liquidation.
Bury AFC
Discussions about a possible phoenix team for Bury have been ongoing, and now the North West Counties League has confirmed they received an application from a newly-formed club called Bury AFC, which would see them affiliated into the league from the start of the 2020/21 season.
The phoenix club is unaffiliated with Bury FC, but a group of fans announced earlier this week that they had applied for Bury AFC to join the NWCL, which has leagues in both the ninth and tenth tiers of the English football pyramid.
In a statement, the NWCL said: “The league will be working with the club, the Football Association and other interested parties in progressing the application.
“At this stage, we are reviewing the application and supporting documents.
“The league’s board of directors will meet to discuss the application and whether, as this is an application from a newly-formed club, to support the application ahead of the FA deadline of 1 February 2020.”
