Following the departure of Danny Cowley, Lincoln City have appointed Michael Appleton as their new manager. The former Oxford United has signed a contract until 2023 at Sincil Bank.

Tough Act to Follow
Michael Appleton has a tough act to follow as he joins Lincoln City. Now Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley was adored by the Imps fans. As a result, it will prove a tough job to takeover from.
Cowley led Lincoln from the depths of the Vanarama National League to where they are today. During his three-and-a-half year spell with the club, he saw two title winning campaigns, as well as finishing in the play-offs during their first season back in League Two.
Furthermore, it was also Danny Cowley who oversaw Lincoln’s infamous FA Cup run as a non-league side. The Imps beat Ipswich Town, Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley on their run to the 2016/17 FA Cup quarter finals.
High Aspirations For Michael Appleton
After a good start to the season, Lincoln City fans will be hoping that Michael Appleton will be able to lead them to the League One play-offs.
After an exceptional start to the season, the Imps have seen a dip in form in recent weeks. They won their opening four games in all competitions without conceding a goal. However, now they have just one win in their last eight games, a 2-0 win over Fleetwood Town. Their last outing saw striker Tyler Walker conjure a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Rochdale. However, as a result, they lie in eighth place in League One.
Play-offs will certainly be the target set for Michael Appleton by Lincoln. However, they will have to see a recovery in form to reach their goal, meaning a mid table finish could be more likely.
