Premier League Review: Matchweek Two
VAR the Talk of the Town at The Etihad
It seems that every week we will be talking about VAR. It is Manchester City, whom for the second week running, centred around the debate.
The game had been dominated by Manchester City. Tottenham Hotspur were clinging on to a point after providing an impressive defensive performance. In the last seconds of the game, Manchester City thought they won it through a Gabriel Jesus strike, only for it to be disallowed through VAR. Replays showed that the ball had brushed Aymeric Laporte‘s hand, and any contact with the hand or arm is now considered to be a handball.
City took the lead twice in the first half thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero. However, Tottenham fought back and made it 2-2 in the 56th minute through Lucas Moura. Neither side could grab the decisive goal and it remained equal.
Norwich City and Teemu Pukki Dominate Newcastle
Norwich City bounced back from their opening day defeat with a dominant win over Newcastle United. Teemu Pukki was the shining light for the Canaries, as he registered his first Premier League hat-trick.
The Finnish forward looked an accomplished Premier league forward, not someone who was playing his second top-flight game. He opened the scoring when he blasted a volley past Martin Dubravka from inside the area.
Daniel Farke’s side were patient for their second goal. It came just after the hour mark, as Pukki placed his effort in the bottom right corner of the Newcastle net. The 29-year-old then rounded off his hat-trick by taking advantage of poor defending and delicately placed it past the helpless Dubravka.
