The 2019/20 EFL season begins this weekend, as does Leyton Orient’s season. For the O’s, their campaign will kick off against Cheltenham Town at home on Saturday. This will Orient’s first game back in the EFL for two years.
Leyton Orient’s Season Kick-Offs Against Cheltenham Town
A Day to Remember Regardless of Orient’s Result
Saturday will be a day to savour for everyone at Leyton Orient. After two long seasons in the National League, the O’s will mark their return to the Football League, a day perhaps not many saw possible less than two years ago.
A turbulent period saw the O’s endure a downward spiral, which ultimately led to relegation to non-league football. However, new ownership and a marvellous job by the late great Justin Edinburgh guided the club back to the EFL.
It couldn’t be more fitting to begin their campaign at home, in front of what will be an excited O’s faithful.
The First of 46 Challenging Fixtures
The EFL regular season is a long, tiring and draining one for everyone. The basement of the EFL, which is League Two, will be no different.
This season’s fourth-tier is looking as competitive as ever, which will also mean tussling for positions will be a key factor for the season ahead.
Beginning as they mean to go on, kicking off their campaign with a victory would obviously be ideal for Orient. But it will not be an easy prospect, especially against a seasoned EFL outfit such as Cheltenham Town.
It is going to be a long season ahead for Leyton Orient, but if they can maintain consistent form in the opening four weeks, then their prospects could be positive for the forthcoming campaign.
Prediction for Saturday
Everyone will want to start with a win, however by the same token at least a point to begin the season is ideal.
On Saturday a 1-1 draw at home would be a decent start for the O’s, as they can chalk a point off and look to build on more positive performances as the season goes on.
Furthermore, it would also be an added bonus if new either of Orient’s new strikers in Lee Angol or Conor Wilkinson can get off the mark.
