Oxford United have missed out on another transfer target after Jorge Grant signed for fellow League One side Lincoln City.
The Imps made the announcement yesterday, but Karl Robinson’s side were also looking at the player nearly three weeks ago.
Oxford United Miss Out On Jorge Grant
Oxford Fail to Get Their Man
The 24-year-old Nottingham Forest man hadn’t spent much time at his parent club. Grant had loan spells with Notts County and Mansfield Town in League Two. These were either side of a stint with Luton Town in League One. That’s how the midfielder has spent his past few seasons.
Grant managed just 20 appearances for the Championship outfit and hadn’t played for the side since December 2016.
The Banbury-born man looked likely to come back to his home county of Oxfordshire. However, having spent much of his career in Nottinghamshire, a border to Lincolnshire, Grant opted for that move instead.
“I’m looking forward to showing the fans, in my new permanent home, what I can do on the pitch,” Grant told the clubs official website.
Imps Came Calling
Imps manager Danny Cowley has backed Grant to thrive in Lincoln City’s environment after pulling off another impressive transfer coup.
He enjoyed a superb campaign with Notts County in 2017/18 as the Magpies clinched a League Two play-off Place. In addition, he was also part of the Luton side that won promotion to the Championship.
After the campaign ended in disappointment, with the Stags losing in the play-offs, Cowley believes the Imps are the right club for him as he looks to recapture the form he showed while with the Magpies.
Jack Payne and Grant, along with fellow new signing Joe Morrell, are set to be in the squad for Saturday’s games against Lincoln United and Gainsborough Trinity as part of the Lincolnshire Community Festival of Football at the Northolme.
