Wesley Moraes – Career So Far

Wesley Moraes will be an unknown quantity as he arrives at Aston Villa.

Having arrived in Europe from Brazil, he spent a year with Atletico Madrid. However, he began his professional career at Slovakian club AS Trencin.

The 22-year-old spent just six months in Slovakia before moving to Club Brugge. However, he made 22 appearances in all competitions; scoring six goals as he helped Trencin win their second first division title.

Across his three and a half seasons with Club Brugge, Wesley Moraes has gradually become the first choice striker. He scored six goals in his first season, despite making 15 of those appearances from the bench.

Last season was his most successful to date. He scored 17 goals and registered nine assists in all competitions to help Brugge finish second in the Jupiler Pro League.

Moraes has seen success with Club Brugge. He has two Belgian league titles to his name.

What This Means For Aston Villa

With it seeming unlikely that he will return to Villa Park, manager Dean Smith will be looking for a replacement for Tammy Abraham. Abraham helped fire Villa back to the Premier League with 26 goals in all competitions. As a result, it is pivotal that they replace him.

Wesley Moraes price tag shows intent from the newly promoted Aston Villa. They will be looking to maintain their position back in the Premier League, following a three-year spell in the Championship.

Moraes becomes Aston Villa third signing of the summer. He joins Jota and Anwar El Ghazi– who arrived from Birmingham and Lille respectively- through the door at Villa Park.
