Lyon Striker Alexandre Lacazette the Perfect Fit for Arsenal

Reports have surfaced in many football publications today that Lyon Chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has suggested that his club would be open to letting star striker Alexandre Lacazette leave the club this summer. Arsenal is one of several clubs who have shown interest in the past, with a well documented pursuit of the Frenchmen’s services last summer.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has this to say on the situation:

“Alex had a good option with a club that is in his heart. If the club of his heart is able to match our demands—as Barcelona did last season for Sam Umtiti—then things will go well. Otherwise, it will depend on our other business. But if any players feel that this club is not big enough for them, we will look for others who are just as strong but have the right mentality as well.”

At 25 years old, Lacazette is entering the prime of his football career. With the likelihood of Alexis Sanchez leaving, finding another goalscorer to replace the Chilean’s production will be key for whomever manages the club next season.

Arsene Wenger has been an open admirer of Lacazette’s for several seasons, and for good reason. In all competitions this year, the striker has found the back of the net 35 times. While he added only four assists, he does have a passing success of 77.3%.

As a result of his excellent movement and dribbling, he is fouled quite often, setting up key set plays in opponents’ half of the pitch. He holds the ball well when needed, inviting teammates on the attack. But more than anything, he has a great knack for finishing—something the club has been desperately in need of solving.
