Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been appointed as the new manager of Leicester City. It comes after Claude Puel was sacked following the 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday. As part of the deal, backroom staff Chris Davies and Kolo Toure are expected to join him at Leicester.

Rodgers joins Leicester after a successful spell at Celtic where he won seven trophies, including back-to-back trebles. In his first season, Celtic went the entire season unbeaten and won the league by 30 points. As a result, he may be looking for a new challenge and a return to the Premier League certainly provides that.
When given permission to speak to Leicester, a statement on the official Celtic website said: “Brendan has indicated to the club that it is an opportunity he wishes to investigate further.”
A New Challenge Awaits
Rodgers will face the task of steadying the ship at the King Power Stadium. Leicester currently lie in 12th place on 32 points. However, they are without a win in their last seven games in all competitions. It is their form in that ultimately cost Puel his job.
He will be tasked with taking the Foxes back up the league and challenging for the Europa League. The Northern Irishman will take over a youthful squad, which may suit his attacking style of play.
How Does He Leave Celtic?
He departs Celtic at the top of the table, eight points ahead of city rivals Rangers. They look set to win their 50th Scottish Premiership and eighth consecutive title. Rodgers will also depart with Celtic in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.
However, it is another year where Celtic have been knocked out of European competition earlier than they would have hoped. After making the Round of 32 of the Europa League, the Scottish side were knocked out on aggregate to Valencia. It is something that their new manager for next season will be hoping to improve on.
