Schalke midfielder Alessandro Schopf pens new deal

Schalke midfielder Alessandro Schopf has signed a contract extension which will keep him at the Bundesliga club until 30th June 2021.The Austrian International signed a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Schopf joined Schalke from Nuremberg in the 2015/16 season and has gone on to score 11 goals in over 68 matches in all competitions for the Veltins Arena club.

Schopf suffered knee injury last season

The 24-year-old Austrian international has just returned to action this season after suffering from a partial rupture of the cruciate anterior ligament in April last year. A collision with Bayer Leverkusen defender Benjamin Henrichs in a Bundesliga match which kept him out for about four months.

Tedesco elated to keep Schopf after contract extension

Schalke 04 boss Domenico Tedesco was happy to retain his services for a longer term.

“Schopf is almost a complete player, he is very diligent and runs many, many kilometres in each game.

“He is versatile and always wants to play, no matter which position it is.

“In addition, he is technically savvy, is brave and a great person. We’re delighted to be able to continue working with him.” Tedesco said at a press conference.

The 24-year-old midfielder was elated to stay at the club.

“I’m delighted to continue my journey at Schalke and am looking forward to more good times in Gelsenkirchen.

“I’m proud to wear the Royal Blue shirt. I see ourselves on a very good path and believe that our development is far from over, ” he said.

Schalke struggling in Bundesliga this season

Schalke managed to win over Hoffenheim at the Veltins Arena after consecutive defeats to Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich. The Gelsenkirchen club currently occupy fifth position in the Bundesliga table after 23 matches with 37 points but they are 22 points adrift of league leaders Bayern Munich.
