Philippe Coutinho Signs a Five-Year Contract with Liverpool

Philippe Coutinho signs a five year contract with Liverpool FC, which will see him become the clubs top earner and remain with the Merseyside club until 2022.

After plenty of talk about a move away from Merseyside, Philippe Coutinho has put an end to the rumours after signing a new deal which will see him remain with the club until 2022.

Coutinho will become the club’s highest paid player, earning himself £150,000 per week. More importantly, he has agreed to sign another contract which has no release clause, which puts Liverpool under no pressure to sell the attacker if he continues on his upward trajectory and attracting the attention of the biggest clubs in the world.

This is a real statement of intent from Liverpool, after many supporters of the club were worried that another season with no silverware may tempt Coutinho on to pastures new. But it seems as though this team can build around their brightest star for years to come.

In an interview with liverpoolfc.com, Coutinho explained that the love shown from the fans was a huge factor in deciding to stay on Merseyside, saying:

“Ever since my arrival here, I was welcomed with open arms by the supporters – and everyone at this football club.

“This is an important factor that carries weight when you decide to remain here for a longer period – and this did have a lot of weight when I thought about the renewal of my contract. I can only thank every supporter for their faith in me.

“I really hope to repay them. I will do my very best on the pitch to create assists for my teammates and score goals for us to try and win trophies and titles. It’s not just me – since me and my family arrived here we have been welcomed with open arms by everyone. We feel at home in this city, we feel a part of this city.”

With Liverpool’s recent drop in form coinciding with his injury lay-off, it has been made even clearer this year that the teams success revolves around their 24-year-old attacker.

Coutinho has been with the club since 2013, and has been a main stay in the first team ever since. Having scored 38 goals in 163 Liverpool appearances, he has provided many memorable moments, most notably his 78th minute winner against Manchester City in the business end of the 2013-14 season.
