Carabao Cup Fourth Round Draw

The draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup took place this evening, with only 16 teams left in the competition following the first three rounds of fixtures. The lowest ranked team left are League One side Burton Albion, who have reached this stage for the first time in their history. The highest ranked are Premier League leaders Manchester City following their 3-0 away win at Oxford United in Round Three.

Interesting Fixtures

Frank Lampard came up against Jose Mourinho for the first time since he was a player under Mourinho at Chelsea in the last round. Lampard, this time, was the manager of Championship side Derby County against Mourinho’s Manchester United. Lampard shocked the world that night as Derby secured a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford and a passage into the next round after an 8-7 win on penalties. His reward? Another reunion; this time, with Stamford Bridge. Derby will travel to Chelsea after the Blues recovered from Daniel Sturridge’s overhead kick to get through their tie at Anfield and Lampard will have a chance to take the Rams into the last eight at the expense of another familiarity to him.

In a reverse of a Round Four fixture from last season’s Carabao Cup, Tottenham will travel to West Ham United after the Hammers went to Wembley last season for a Spurs ‘home’ game. Tottenham secured their passage to this stage after a 2-2 draw and eventual penalty shoot-out win over Watford at Stadium MK. Dele Alli scored in normal time and scored the winning penalty on his Milton Keynes homecoming having come through the ranks at MK Dons. West Ham, meanwhile, secured the biggest win margin so far in the competition in their last game as they secured an 8-0 (eight) victory over League Two outfit Macclesfield Town. Their opposition in this game will certainly be a lot tougher, though, and their cup run could come to an unfortunate end.
