Leicester City have signed the highly rated Turkish centre back Caglar Soyuncu. Leicester managed to get their man signed just before the 5 pm deadline for a fee that could rise to £19 million. The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal at the King Power Stadium.
Caglar Sonyucu Signs For Leicester
Turkish Superstar
Caglar Soyuncu started his career at Altinordu S.K and made his first-team debut at the age of 18, making 34 appearances in the process. Two years after his debut, despite being linked with Besiktas, Galatasaray and Sevilla, Soyuncu decided to move to the Bundesliga with Freiburg in the summer of 2016. He then went on to make 50 appearances for the club. Having played at every level with Turkey, Soyuncu made his senior debut at the age of 20 against Sweden. Since his first senior cap, Soyuncu has gone on to make 15 caps, scoring one goal.
Playing Style
Standing at 6″2′, Soyuncu uses his big presence in defence and being physically strong in the air, you can see why he is being likened to Mats Hummels. Soyuncu has stated that Carlos Puyol was his idol growing up and that’s who he tries to base his game on. Getting better each season, he was ever present in Freiburg’s first team last season helping them survive relegation.
Fight For Starting Positions
With Leicester adding two fellow centre-backs to their squad this summer, Caglar Soyuncu will be looking to cement his place in Claude Puel’s starting line up when given the opportunity. In the same way, fellow deadline day signing Filip Benkovic and Jonny Evans will be looking to make an impact. The three new signings will have to hit the ground running if they are to compete for the starting centre back positions. Especially considering Leicester already have club captain Wes Morgan and Harry Maguire.
