‘Undergoing Medical Assessment’: Chelsea Add ‘Fantastic’ Midfielder To 10-Man Injury List

Chelsea players celebrate together following goal

Chelsea have been persistently troubled by injury issues all throughout the season and this is showing no sign of going away. Ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Everton (on April 15), the Blues have revealed a few more additions to their injury-list.

Chelsea Add Enzo Fernandez And Axel Disasi To Injury List

How Many Chelsea Players Are Injured?

Chelsea have confirmed that Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi have both been added to their injury doubts list ahead of the game. The club stated that the two are “undergoing medical assessment” ahead of the big match after playing quite regularly in recent months.

Mauricio Pochettino spoke about the conditions of Fernandez and Disasi, saying: “We’ll see. They are under assessment. They have different types of issues. We don’t believe they are big issues but we will see if they can be available. At the moment, they have not trained after Sheffield (United) and that is why we don’t know.”

With this, the Blues now have as many as 10 first-team players who are on the sidelines nursing an injury or illness. Along with these two, Raheem Sterling and Robert Sanchez are ill. The likes of Ben Chilwell, Levi Colwill, Reece James and Lesley Ugochukwu are all recovering from respective injuries. Christopher Nkunku, who has struggled with injuries all season long, is also sidelined with Romeo Lavia, who has only made one appearance in a disastrous debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

How Can Chelsea Cope Without Fernandez Or Disasi?

Pochettino might need to tweak his setup if unable to play either Fernandez or Disasi in the upcoming fixture. This could be an opportunity for young midfielder Cesare Casadei, who impressed on loan at Leicester City before being recalled in January, to play or it could offer a chance for Carney Chukwuemeka too. Malo Gusto could take up the right-back role from Disasi against Everton too after being rested for the draw with the Blades.

Fernandez, who was hailed as “fantastic” last season, has been enjoying a pretty decent 2023/24 campaign under the Argentine manager, having scored seven goals and provided three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. Disasi, who joined the club last summer, has made 40 appearances for the Blues and has not missed a single game due to injury so far, something that might change against the Toffees.
