How Bayern Munich Have Lined Up Recently

The team were down to bare bones once again in their 3-2 Bavarian derby win against FC Augsburg. They began with Manuel Neuer in goal, as Alphonso Davies and Raphael Guerreiro played in the fullback positions.

Eric Dier started as centre back next to Matthijs de Ligt, while Leon Goretzka played in the holding midfield role next to Aleksandar Pavlovic. Meanwhile, Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, and Harry Kane made up the front four.

However, Bayern’s bad luck regarding injuries continued as Coman tore his MCL, thus leaving the team with even fewer options in the squad. The lack of depth that the team had all season made the board react in the January transfer window. They brought in right-back Sacha Boey from Galatasaray along with centre-back Dier from Tottenham Hotspur.

Due to Coman’s injury, they also secured the services of Spanish winger Bryan Zaragoza from Granada early. He was supposed to join the club in the summer, but they were able to sign him on the loan for now.

Bayern Munich Recent Form and Tactics

The Bavarians started 2024 with three victories and a defeat. They have looked far from convincing in those matches. At the same time, Bayern are still near the top of the league table, despite Leverkusen having been simply stunning this term. They are also in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The next two matches after this one, against Leverkusen and Lazio respectively will tell us more about what kind of season Bayern will have. Tactically speaking, the 4-2-3-1 has once again proven to be the team’s best bet for success.

Bayern Munich Injuries to Consider

As noted above, Coman joins Dayot Upamecano, Bouna Sarr, Konrad Laimer, Serge Gnabry, and Daniel Peretz on the injury list. In terms of international absences, Kim Min-jae has reached the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup with South Korea, while Noussair Mazraoui has been eliminated from the African Nations Cup with Morocco and is likely to be available for the squad against Gladbach.

Coach Thomas Tuchel will probably be absent from the sidelines through illness, which is sure to also affect the team to a degree as well.
