Bayern Munich Predicted Lineup vs Union Berlin for January 24

Thomas Tuchel gets ready to make substitutions

After the unexpected 1-0 defeat to Werder Bremen last Sunday, Bayern Munich find themselves seven points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. The Bavarians, however, do have a game in hand. Their encounter with Union Berlin, which had been scheduled for December 2 of last year, had to be moved to Wednesday (the 24th of January), due to heavy snowfall in the Bavarian capital at the time. The situation makes it a pivotal match for them now. Last Word on Football brings you our Bayern Munich predicted lineup for the game.

How Bayern Munich Have Lined Up Recently

In both of Bayern’s Bundesliga matches so far in 2024, they have lined up similarly. They started with Manuel Neuer in goal, as Konrad Laimer and Alphonso Davies played in the outside back positions. Dayot Upamecano played centre-back alongside Matthijs de Ligt.

Meanwhile, Joshua Kimmich largely played as the lone defensive midfielder, with Raphael Guerreiro mostly functioning as a number eight ahead of him.

Against Bremen, Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, and Harry Kane made up the front four. In the previous game, Thomas Müller had started instead of Coman.

On Sunday, coach Thomas Tuchel made three offensive-minded changes slightly after the hour mark and one towards the end of the match. He even moved Sané to the left-back position, to bring more attacking players onto the pitch. It was, however, a lack of quality firepower in that final third, which deservedly kept the Bavarians off of the scoreboard throughout.

In Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Tuchel reiterated the need to see all of the basic virtues such as desire, strength, and determination from his side. He admitted that that was lacking not only at the weekend but since the end of the winter break.

Bayern Munich Recent Form and Tactics

Constant winning is such a pivotal part of the DNA of the club, that any defeat feels like a shock to the system and almost like an insult to anybody associated with Bayern. Given that this was their second loss in six competitive matches, it adds an even greater sense of urgency to the situation.

In terms of tactics, Bayern will likely revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation. That means that Leon Goretzka will probably start instead of the more attacking Guerreiro.

Bayern Munich Injuries to Consider

Serge Gnabry and Bouna Sarr remain out with injuries. Meanwhile, Daniel Peretz may be back with the team if needed. As for Kim Min-jae and Noussair Mazraoui, they are still on international duty at the Asian and African championships respectively. Each of their teams has secured a place in the knockout rounds of their respective competitions.
