Despite a strong start to the 2023/24 Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur’s recent form has faltered, with their final game before the new year ended in a 4-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. With a lack of squad depth and injuries to key midfielders, it appears that they are pushing to get their January transfer work done early in the window and are eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
Tottenham Hotspur Begin Negotiations For Conor Gallagher Transfer
How Much Could Conor Gallagher Cost?
Sky Sports reporter Gianluca di Marzio has reported that “negotiations are underway” between the Lilywhites and their local rivals over the possible transfer of midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has been linked with the North London club for quite some time..

The journalist added that the England international is very popular among the Spurs management staff and that Tottenham now trying to reach an agreement with the Blues to seal him as their first signing of the January transfer window.
Di Marzio also claims that a price of around £35 million is discussed between the two clubs to get a deal over the line once the winter window opens on January 1st. Spurs are looking for midfield reinforcements after being seemingly limited in that area of the pitch in Postecoglou’s first season.
Sky Sports have previously reported Ange Postecoglou’s interest in a move for the England international and Chelsea were understood to be willing to listen to offers for the midfielder. They also were believed to have a move for Gallagher agreed in principle in the summer but his club opted to not sell him, as a result of impressive performances in the first few matches of the season.

Are Spurs Working On Any Other Deal?
Despite their interest in signing Gallagher, Tottenham are also reported to be working on the signing of a new centre-back in the January transfer window. Postecoglou had already hinted of his desire to strengthen his backline in the winter, after seeing his side a bit short-staffed in that department after selling Davinson Sanchez in the summer.

With that being said, Tottenham could be getting an excellent deal if they can sign the English midfielder from their city rivals for the reported £35 million price tag. Gallagher, who has been hailed as “extraordinary” by previous manager Thomas Tuchel, has been one of Chelsea’s best players in the first half of the 2023/24 season and picked up four assists in the Premier League.
He can play in a variety of roles in midfield and is known for his energetic, hard-working playing style that can help add more spark to Spurs’ midfield if they can get him. During his loan spell at Crystal Palace in 2021/22, he became a fan favourite with the Eagles as a result of his excellent pressing ability and consistent effort at both ends of the pitch. He ended the season with eight goals and three assists.
While he is yet to reach the heights seen during his spell at Selhurst Park, fans will be optimistic that Postecoglou can get a tune out of the midfielder and boost Spurs’ hopes of a top four finish.
