Lazio Target Hugo Lloris in Last Minute Change of Heart

Hugo Lloris Decides Against Switch to Serie A

With the signing of Guglielmo Vicario by Tottenham seeming to put an end to his 11-year career in North London, a deal with Lazio seemed to be very close, but the former French captain described as a “fantastic leader” has decided that he will stay where is – for now at least.

Lloris has a year left on his current Spurs contract, and despite not featuring in new manager Ange Postecoglu’s opening-day squad against Brentford, he does still hold the number 1 jersey.

Agreement to Miss Pre-Season Tour

There have been no reports of any animosity between Lloris and the Australian, and both agreed that he would not go on the club’s pre-season tour. This led to speculation that he would move on to pastures new, and Lazio, who, unlike Tottenham, will be playing in the Champions League this season, agreed a fee. It looked like the deal to Lazio was done – after Lloris found that he would not be guaranteed a starting berth.

One Year Left

Lequipe also cites other teams holding an interest in the French shot-stopper, including from Saudi Arabia and also how he said in June that he would like to move on but did not rule out the possibility of seeing out his contract:

“I have desires for other things, but I do not forget that I still have a year of contract and that in football, it is difficult to predict what will happen.”

Tottenham are looking to get a number of wages off their payroll, but it now looks like they will have to wait a little longer to see if the exit of Lloris can be facilitated.
