Despite it looking like he is not a vital player for Erik ten Hag anymore, Talksport claims that they will ask for £40 million to let him leave in the summer – sending a clear message to West Ham that they will have to pay the asking price to obtain the services of the Scottish international.

It is being reported that the Dutch manager is happy to keep the 26-year-old as part of his squad for the 2023/24 season but would consider selling him if a big offer comes in. The Red Devils also realise that a sale of the academy graduate would help them significantly in improving their finances, as it would mean pure profit on their record books amid strict spending limits from UEFA. West Ham recently sold Declan Rice for £105 million to Arsenal, meaning they have the funds available to buy the Scottish international.

Man Utd Plans for the Rest of the Transfer Window

After having sold two first-team players and signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan, the Red Devils are now looking to further improve their squad. United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, and are pushing to get that deal over the line soon. They are also said to have “total agreement” for the potential signing of another midfielder in the form of Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat, whose potential arrival could mean further negative news for McTominay.

The Scottish midfielder has been at the club since he was six and has spent his entire career with them. He made his debut with the Red Devils under Jose Mourinho in 2017 and has featured quite prominently under every manager since then. Ralf Rangnick, who acted as their interim manager, praised his “amazing energy” and tipped him to be a future captain for the club. McTominay, who has made 209 appearances for the Premier League giants, may have to look elsewhere for regular first-team football.
