Liverpool are close to confirming the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion – according to Fabrizio Romano. The Argentine has already undergone his medical tests and agreed personal terms ahead of a confirmation.

It was reported in the past few weeks that the Reds might have to pay as much as £60 million to sign the Argentine midfielder, but it appears that new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke might’ve pulled a bit of a masterclass here.

Romano reveals that the Reds will only be paying a fee of around £35 million to sign Mac Allister, after having triggered his release clause at Brighton. It’s also added that Liverpool are now getting the official documents signed by the 24-year-old before an official announcement should arrive soon.
Mac Allister was reported to be a summer target for multiple Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal. However, it appears that the player has chosen Liverpool after helping Brighton secure a place in the UEFA Europa League next season with a top-7 finish in the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Mac Allister had his breakthrough season at both club and international level in the 2022/23 campaign. He was part of Argentina’s Qatar World Cup winning squad and played a prominent role in their win over France in the final as well.

He was also prolific for Brighton, having scored ten goals and provided two assists in 35 appearances in the Premier League. The 24-year-old can play anywhere in midfield and is known for being very energetic as well as creative with his final pass. That should make him a solid fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side, which recently let go of multiple first-team players like James Milner who is a reported summer target for Brighton. Mac Allister was recently dubbed as a ‘special player‘ by ex-teammate Adam Lallana and could be a really smart signing for Liverpool.
