The winner of the Premier League championship this season was all but decided after Manchester City’s 4-1 victory over Arsenal at Etihad Stadium at the end of last month. Which teams have the best chance to finish in the top 4 is also now becoming fairly apparent. The relegation battle 2022/23 is now receiving the most interest. Which clubs are really in jeopardy of missing out on the English Premier League football competition next season? Let’s take a look at the ongoing EPL’s bottom-half points table situation.
Relegation Battle 2022/23: Premier League Points Table Scenario
The Standings
The current scenario in the bottom half of the points table indicates that at least five teams are most involved in the current relegation dogfight. The teams that are in danger of moving down to the EFL Championship are Nottingham Forest, Everton, Leicester City, Leeds United, and Southampton. West Ham United are in a comparatively better position but are also not completely out of danger just yet.

Relegation Battle 2022/23: The Run-In
The latest bottom-half point tallies show that Southampton are in 20th place with only 24 points. The Saints are most likely to finish the season at the bottom of the table and be relegated to the Championship. Leeds United and Leicester City are in 19th and 18th place, respectively, with 30 points each, and they are in real danger of missing out on Premier League football next season. In addition, Nottingham Forest are in 16th place with 33 points, while Everton are in 17th place with 32 points.
The current form and the remaining fixtures suggest that the relegation battle 2022/23 in the final month will likely remain between these five clubs. Let’s have a look at each of these five clubs remaining matches and their recent form.

Nottingham Forest
The Tricky Trees refreshed everyone’s memories after returning to English football’s top division for this campaign. However, it appears that their time in the top flight may not be very long, as they are currently in a very dire situation. Forest’s possibility of dropping to the second-tier league is very tangible given their lacklustre performances thus far this season. They do, however, have considerably easier remaining games than others, so one more victory might keep them from being demoted.
Nottingham Forest’s last five Premier League results:
Vs Manchester United: 2-0 (loss)
Vs Liverpool: 3-2 (loss)
Vs Brighton: 3-1 (win)
Vs Brentford: 2-1 (loss)

Everton
Everton have played in the top division for a record 120 seasons. Their previous absence from the top-tier English football league was in the 1953/54 campaign. For the first time in over 69 years, the Toffees won’t be able to compete in the highest division if they are demoted. Their performance hasn’t been up to par, like that of other bottom-half clubs. They should strive to take advantage of the two relatively easy games they have left in their schedule to escape relegation.
Everton’s last five Premier League results:
Vs Fulham: 3-1 (loss)
Vs Crystal Palace: 0-0 (draw)
Vs Newcastle United: 4-1 (loss)

Leicester City
The Foxes have gained popularity among football fans all over the world since their fantasy-like Premier League triumph in the 2015/16 season. They were elevated to the English top division in 2014 and haven’t been relegated since. But given their recent poor form, they might not be able to avoid relegation this time. To make matters worse, two of their next three games are predicted to be extremely difficult. They will compete against two strong sides that are vying for a top-four finish and a team in the lower half that is also fighting to stay up.
Leicester City’s last five Premier League results:
Vs Manchester City: 3-1 (loss)

Leeds United
The Whites narrowly escaped relegation by finishing 17th last year. They have encountered a similar situation this campaign, battling to accumulate points to avoid being involved in the relegation scrap. They only collected one point from their previous five contests. Their chances of avoiding relegation will be further hampered by the fact that their remaining games will be against tougher opponents.

Southampton
The Saints have endured a difficult campaign and are currently last in the standings. Given that Southampton are five points below 19th-placed Everton, they are most likely to be the first team to be relegated this season. It will be nearly impossible for them to stage an incredible recovery and prevail in the relegation battle 2022/23 with only three games left in the term.
Southampton’s last five Premier League results:
Vs Crystal Palace: 2-0 (loss)
