How Manchester United Have Lined-Up Recently
Erik ten Hag has been forced to move away from his patent lineup used throughout this season due to injuries plaguing his side in recent weeks. At this point, David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luke Shaw are guaranteed starters at the backline – with Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire to fight for the other centre-back role – with the former probably piping it.

Marcus Rashford is undroppable due to his irresistible form, with Antony and Anthony Martial’s impact in respective roles making them key players too. In midfield, their Carabao Cup final hero Casemiro retains his role along with Christian Eriksen. Bruno Fernandes – who was hailed as ‘outstanding’ by Gary Neville in United’s previous Premier League game against Nottingham Forest – could miss this game due to a knock he picked up in the FA Cup semifinal against Brighton and could be replaced by January signing Marcel Sabitzer.
Manchester United Recent Form and Tactics
The Red Devils have won three out of their last five games in all competitions. However, they have had a bit of a wobbly away record in the Premier League in recent months – having lost two of their last three games on the road in the league.
Despite the injuries plaguing his side, Erik ten Hag will not be forced to change his system or playing style. He’ll continue with his 4-3-3 formation and urge the players to exploit Spurs’ defensive issues by bombing forward in attacks. The Red Devils have shown a pattern of attacking through the wings, with their wingers often carrying the ball forward and going inverted into the box – with the wing-backs offering more width.
United will continue their style of playing the ball out of the back and using quick passing to carve open the opposition’s backline. They’ll also use the pace of their forwards to march forward in counter-attacks and need to be clinical to enough a win from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Manchester United Key Players
Rashford remains the leader in the attack for United, as he’s bailed them out of trouble time and again this season with 28 goals in all competitions. He’ll aim to use his electric pace and dribbling ability to torment the Spurs’ backline and get into more key areas in the box to get back to scoring goals. Antony is finally starting to justify his huge transfer fee and playing at a high level for United. He can be a real menace with his burst of pace as well as close control, while his Arjen Robben-esque style of cutting inwards and attempting top-bin curlers can be decisive against Spurs.

Martial needs to be more than just a link-up factor for United, needing to get himself more scoring opportunities to trouble Spurs. Sabitzer can add that unpredictability to their attack with his clever off-the-ball runs and help open up the Spurs’ backline. United’s own defence, led by the composed Lindelof, has to be very disciplined to keep the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min quiet and frustrate Spurs.
Manchester United Injuries to Consider
Lisandro Martinez is ruled out for the rest of the season, while Raphael Varane is still some time away from returning. Fernandes is a major doubt for this after sustaining a knock against Brighton, while Donny van de Beek and Alejandro Garnacho are also out of action.
