Who is Facundo Pellistri?
The 21-year-old winger was signed during Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s reign at the club from Club Atletico Penarol in October 2020 on a five-year deal. Since then, the forward has managed two loan spells at Deportivo Alaves, the second of which was hugely frustrating.
Pellistri was struggling for game time and for the most part, failed to replicate the same level of success that his first loan spell at the club produced.
Despite that, the winger was still a key part of the Uruguayan national team – regularly making the squad for their World Cup qualifiers, despite not starting at the Spanish side. His importance continues to this day, with Pellistri also making the final Uruguay World Cup squad.

Pellistri’s 2022/23 Campaign
The forward has been made to wait for his opportunity this season, with his sole appearance for the senior team coming in Manchester United’s recent 3-0 triumph over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup; and he grabbed that opportunity with both hands.
Coming on from the bench, Pellistri was very impressive and showed great composure when sliding Marcus Rashford through on goal to register his first assist for the club.
After the game, speaking on the winger’s performance, Erik ten Hag had this to say: “I see a future in him. He is doing really well and we have to see what is the best [for him]. He is progressing. Against Everton [in a behind-closed-doors friendly], I was really happy with his performance.
“I was happy with his performance at the World Cup so his progress is really good and now he is coming on and has an effect. So that’s the next step that I say: ‘well done Pelli, keep going’.”

Facundo Pellistri clearly has the backing of Manchester United boss Ten Hag, and a decision now must be made as to whether another loan move, or staying with the club, is best for the 21-year-old’s development.
