Gareth Southgate has announced his England squad, presenting a side that has plenty of potential to win the World Cup. Read on to find out who made it in the England World Cup squad and some of the players that missed out.
England Squad Announced for the World Cup
Who Misses Out?
James Ward-Prowse is one of the major figures missing out on a place in the England World Cup squad, with the Southampton midfielder being a mainstay at his club throughout the season. Whilst he offers a wicked direct free-kick, there are sure to be some doubts about whether he’s worth taking when he’d spend much of the competition on the bench.
Liverpool‘s Joe Gomez also misses out on a place on the plane. His performances in recent weeks, including a mistake that led directly to a goal against Leeds United, could have led the England manager to prefer more sturdy options such as Benjamin White.
Who Made in On the Plane?
James Maddison is one of the players that people had been clamouring to see in the England squad, and he successfully clawed his way into the side with a series of excellent performances for Leicester City.
Callum Wilson has also found a route into the Three Lions’ delegation for the World Cup in Qatar after a series of excellent performances with Newcastle United, and Kyle Walker’s return to fitness at Manchester City sees him once again securing a place as an integral cog in Gareth Southgate’s defensive machine.
