Liverpool to Make Contract Decision on 109-Goal ‘Super Player’ in 2023

Roberto Firmino

Liverpool are going to decide whether or not to extend Roberto Firmino’s contract next year, confirms Fabrizio Romano. The Brazilian forward has been at the club for seven years and has been a part of their Premier League and Champions League-winning teams under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool Will Make Decision on Roberto Firmino’s Future Next Year

Firmino Considered an Important Player at Anfield Amid Transfer Links

The 31-year-old forward’s contract with the Reds is set to expire in June 2023, which means he would become a free agent after the end of the season unless his deal is extended at Anfield. Romano adds that Firmino is still regarded as an important part of Klopp’s squad, having scored eight goals so far this season and been among his side’s highest scorers.

When it comes to having talks with him about his future and potentially extending his deal, Liverpool have planned to make a decision on them in 2023 – possibly in the second half of the season. A probable reason for that is they want to see how the Brazilian forward can perform this season and whether he’s been able to get rid of the injury issues that have plagued him over the last few years.

Firmino Hasn’t Held Talks With Serie A Clubs

Despite uncertainty over his future at Anfield, Firmino has remained loyal to his club and has not gone behind their backs to try and talk to clubs in order to negotiate a potential free transfer move for himself next year. Romano claims that despite some reports linking him to Serie A clubs Juventus and AC Milan, he has not held talks with them at all.

In fact, he also adds that the rumours claiming that the Brazilian forward spoke with Juventus’ officials over a potential move in July are false as well. He was focused on enjoying the campaign with the Reds, despite seeing his position in the team placed under threat after the acquisition of Darwin Nunez.

Firmino, who has been called a ‘super player’ by Klopp in the past, has made 341 appearances for Liverpool so far – scoring 106 goals and providing 78 assists. He’s won all major trophies with the Reds and become a fan favourite at Anfield.
