He Had Already Signed Two Former Ajax Players
According to journalist Achraf Ben Ayad: “Manchester United officials ‘advised’ coach Ten Hag not to increase the number of ‘Ajax players’ after signing two, that’s when Dest’s option became ruled out.”

The 21-year-old was considered by the United boss in order to reinforce right-back options, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka rumoured to leave the club this summer. Diogo Dalot has been preferred by Ten Hag as of late and the Englishman is yet to make a start under the new manager.
Sergino Dest Had to Find A New Club This Summer
Dest was reluctant to leave Barcelona until Xavi insisted he find a new team this summer as there was no guarantee he could secure minutes on the pitch this season.

The United manager was keen to negotiate a deal with the American, especially as the two worked together in Amsterdam, until club officials intervened.
New Signings Paying Off for United
The Manchester side saw the arrivals of two former Ajax stars this transfer window in Antony and Lisandro Martinez. The latter has just been awarded Player of the Month for August after two exceptional performances against Liverpool and Southampton.
