PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo has been one of the most talked about players of the summer. He has long since been rumoured as a Manchester United target and it seems that he is Premier League bound. However, the forward won’t be going to Manchester. As per The Athletic, Southampton are at the fore when it comes to luring Gakpo away from the Netherlands.

About the Dutchman
Southampton and Manchester United target Gakpo is actually from Eindhoven. He was born in that area of the Netherlands and has grown up through their youth academies. After thriving with Jong PSV, the reserve side, he has since gone on to continue excelling with the first team. His form in front of goal hasn’t gone unnoticed, earning his first call-up to the national set-up under the stewardship of Frank de Boer.
“Southampton have already signed six players this summer, with Armel Bella-Kotchap, Romeo Lavia, Joe Aribo, Sekou Mara, Gavin Bazunu and Mateusz Lis all joining Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.” Alongside Lavia and Bazunu arriving from Manchester City, another pair could be brought in in the form of Samuel Edozie and Juan Larios, as has also been reported by The Athletic.
Goals haven’t exactly been an issue for the Saints thus far this season. The likes of Che Adams and Adam Armstrong have contributed in the attacking third, but more can be done, especially given that Armando Broja is still a Chelsea man. Gakpo is of great stock and he could be the man to truly make the difference.

Gakpo Is Not the Only Manchester United Target
Gakpo was attracting huge interest from Manchester United but another deal looks likely to quell that. After a long and drawn-out process, Brazilian winger Antony has been confirmed as a United player. Whilst Gakpo is a PSV man, fellow Manchester United target Antony has risen to prominence after succeeding in an Ajax shirt.
