Liverpool made an inauspicious start to the season with two points from three games. A loss against Manchester United quickly set the alarm bells ringing on the midfield crises at Anfield. After the initial doubts on further transfer business, Jurgen Klopp announced to reporters that the club would now look to sign a new midfield marshall.
According to Nick Westby of the Yorkshire Post, Liverpool are considering a move for £35 million rated Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge. Jurgen Klopp always stated that the club will only be in the market for the right player and he must have been won over by the Norwegian talent.

An ‘Interesting Player’
Klopp is said to be a long-time admirer of the player even before he arrived in England. Liverpool faced Genk in 2019 and the midfield prodigy impressed the Anfield faithful during the game.
Klopp was seen in a long impromptu chat with the player after the match. Norwegian publication VG claims the Reds Boss told Berge: “You’re an interesting player – a very interesting player”.
The Aftermath of the Anfield Annihilation of Bournemouth
After the shocking loss to Manchester United, the Reds defeated Bournemouth in a record-equalling 9-0 victory. It was a much-needed statement win for their fans after a lacklustre start to the season. But this victory doesn’t completely mask their need for a new midfielder amid the injury crisis in the team.
Asked if the progression of their teenage midfielders would be hampered by new midfield signings in a post-match conference, defender Virgil van Dijk said: “I don’t think they will be stopped from progressing (if new midfielders come in), with the amount of games we play, we need a lot of midfielders.”
The club has now identified the long-term dream of Jurgen Klopp as the perfect piece of the puzzle and a solution to their glaring midfield problem.
The Reds Face Stiff Competition For the Midfield Powerhouse
Club Brugge are reported to have a serious interest in the player. They have had a couple of bids turned down by the Sheffield United board. The Reds have a huge job to prevent a bidding war for the player inorder to land their dream target.
The player is said to be hugely fascinated by the idea of playing at Anfield. This could be the deciding factor in the deal as the player would jump at the chance of playing for the Reds.
Berge may not be a world star, but he is an athletic and technically-gifted midfielder who could play in several different midfield roles under Klopp. The player is also only 24 years old and could be moulded into a key player at Anfield.
