Sunderland Transfer Round-Up: PSG Star Linked, Winger Edges Closer to Move Plus Defender and Attackers on Black Cats Radar

Black Cats Chase PSG Youngster Édouard Michut

It is believed that Sunderland have entered the race to sign PSG’s highly-rated youngster Édouard Michut. However, according to reports, the Black Cats will face competition for the 19-year-old. Alex Neil is looking to bolster his squad before the transfer window shuts and Michut would fit the type of player that the club have been identifying.

The central midfielder who can also play further forward has not featured for PSG this season under their new manager Christophe Galtier. The player did however feature for the first team last season as they won the league title. As yet it is uncertain whether any deal would be a loan or a permanent one; however, a loan deal could suit all parties should the Black Cats be able to persuade the talented youngster to move to Wearside.

Jewison Bennette Move Nears Completion

Costa Rican winger Jewison Bennette has flown to England to complete his move to Sunderland from Herediano. According to Richard Mennear of the Sunderland Echo, the 18-year-old is set to undergo a medical before signing a long-term contract.

Speaking to reporters at the airport before his flight to the UK, Bennette spoke about his impending transfer. He said: “I’m very happy, excited about this new opportunity, I hope to do things well and do my best to move forward.

“It’s a new challenge, new goals and I think I’m very excited about it, because of my family who has always supported me and I’m going to give it my all.”

Sunderland Lead Race for Brighton and Hove Albion Defender

According to Phil Smith of the Shields Gazette and Joe Nicholson of the Sunderland Echo, the Stadium of Light is now the most likely destination for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

22-year-old Van Hecke spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers winning their player of the year award as the North West club finished eighth in the Championship.

The Dutch under-21 international currently has just one year left on his contract at Albion and is expected to sign a new deal before leaving on loan once again. Van Hecke can play as a central defender or at right-back.

Sunderland Eyeing Bournemouth and Lincoln City Attackers but Face Competition

Sunderland head coach Alex Neil has made no secret of his desire to add more attacking options to his squad. With just two first-team strikers currently at his disposal, Neil is looking for reinforcements. It is therefore of little surprise that attackers are being linked with a move to Wearside daily.

The latest to be linked are Bournemouth’s Jamal Lowe and Lincoln City’s Anthony Scully.

Reports by James Copely of the Sunderland Echo and George Dagless of Football League World indicate that the Black Cats are one of several clubs showing an interest in the former Portsmouth forward. Despite featuring 34 times as Bournemouth gained promotion last season, Lowe has fallen out of favour and will be allowed to leave on loan.

Anthony Scully is also on Alex Neil’s radar according to Matty Jones of the Nothern Echo. The 23-year-old winger who can also play as a striker has impressed in League One with Lincoln since his move from West Ham United in 2020.

Scully has scored 36 goals in 103 games for the Imps and is attracting interest from a host of Championship and League One clubs. He has just one year left on his current contract.
