Fabrizio Romano: £35M Manchester United Target ‘Tempted by Premier League’ With Arsenal Also Interested

Manchester United target Cody Gakpo is attracted to a possible summer move to the Premier League, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 23-year-old PSV forward is also reportedly attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal and Leeds United, with the Red Devils set to face competition from them.

Erik Ten Hag Remains Great Admirer of Gakpo

The Manchester giants’ manager Erik ten Hag has himself urged them to make a potential move for the Dutch forward after being impressed by him during his stint as Ajax manager. The Dutch gaffer knows him for quite a long time and is an admirer of his skillset, which he believes makes him a good fit for the Red Devils.

While United do have the 23-year-old forward on their transfer interest list, they are yet to make an official bid for him. They realize he could be signed for around £35 million. PSV are still expecting to receive an offer to understand whether the Premier League side are actually interested in making a move for their prized forward or not, as per Romano.

Gakpo’s Comparison With Antony

Of course, before their interest in Gakpo, the Red Devils were interested in a summer move for Ajax winger Antony. The Brazilian is, of course, a player whom Ten Hag knows very well having worked with him for a number of years for the Dutch club.

But with the Eredivisie champions setting a reported £68 million transfer tag on him, United have been forced to look into other options. Romano states that the 23-year-old PSV man shares a similar role to Antony’s, but his playing style is way different – being more like the European way than the one opted by South American players.

With the Manchester side ending their pursuit of Austria international Marko Arnautovic, they are now looking into other options to bolster their forward line. Gakpo is slightly different from Arnautovic, as he plays more like a left-winger and had 36 goal contributions (21 goals, 15 assists) last season.

Gakpo Responds to United Links

Gakpo has since responded to the rumours surrounding his future.

“We must first focus on and try to make it to the Champions League.”

“Then it is more likely that I will stay. I don’t think I have said anywhere that I am leaving, so there is definitely a chance that I will stay. I’m open for a cup of coffee with the management – or coffee for them and water for me. We’ll see how it goes.”
