Everton manager Frank Lampard warns that his club might face another relegation battle next season, according to Jacob Whitehead of The Athletic.
It’s easy to understand why, with The Toffees suffering a 4-0 defeat against Minnesota United in a pre-season match earlier this week.

Frank Lampard Fears Another Relegation Battle
Everton Don’t Have Many Reasons to Smile Now
With the pre-season summer in full swing, Everton have little reason to be smiling. There was at least some pride left after their 2-0 loss against Arsenal, but now the house of cards has come falling down, as The Toffees were hammered 4-0 by Minnesota United.
History has taught us that results in pre-season matches often should be taken with a grain of salt. Still, it would be foolish to ignore such a devastating defeat and not think it means anything.
Frank Lampard appears to agree with this sentiment, given the concerns he expressed to The Athletic surrounding another potential relegation battle:
He said: “If we don’t want to be in that situation again, they have to be better and I have to be better. As a club, it (the Minnesota game) reinforced the situation in terms of what we need to do with the squad, because it has to be stronger than what we saw tonight.”

Frank Lampard’s Legacy
Frank Lampard’s relatively young managerial career started at Derby County in 2018. He stayed for a single respectable season, suffering a devastating play-off defeat to Aston Villa and notably knocking Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup.
This was followed by a seemingly inevitable return to Chelsea, where he had quite an underwhelming two-season tenure. Lampard became Everton’s new boss in 2022, after a short managerial hiatus. He did well to help save The Toffees from relegation. However, it’s understandable that he doesn’t want to be in such a pressing situation again.
