Reason to Question if Move Is Ideal

MacIver is a very good player but certain questions arise regarding this move to the blue half of Manchester. She isn’t the only Lionesses goalkeeper present in Gareth Taylor’s ranks following this move. Ellie Roebuck is not only in Sarina Wiegman’s squad for this summer but she is also the undoubted number one at club level.

It remains to be seen how MacIver can secure regular football with City. At 24, she is very young for a keeper but Roebuck is two years younger at 22 and is more highly thought of. MacIver’s role at Everton has been as the guaranteed starter, something which will surely be changing now following this move.

There is often something to be said for a healthy amount of rivalry. The duo in question will surely push each other to achieve bigger and better things. A three-year deal is exceptional for the club and for MacIver in the short term, but a lack of regular play-time could prove troublesome in the long run.

A Bit About the Lionesses Goalkeeper

Roebuck is joined by Mary Earps of Manchester United and Hannah Hampton of Aston Villa in the Lionesses squad. MacIver made her solitary appearance for the national team in February of last year in a comprehensive win over Northern Ireland. There is a plethora of quality when it comes to the Lionesses’ goalkeeper position.

She has featured throughout the various age groups for England and the natural progression would see her enter the first-team fray on a more permanent basis. The aforementioned trio are all themselves fairly young though and this crop of talent is succeeding the likes of Carly Telford and Karen Bardsley.

The Lionesses goalkeeper position is currently contested between Earps and Roebuck. MacIver may be somewhat of an afterthought but she was remarkable in an Everton shirt and brings a lot to the table for Manchester City.
