Liverpool Agree Personal Terms for Benfica Striker Darwin Nunez
Uruguay International Looking to Link Up at Liverpool
On Wednesday, talks between Liverpool and the Benfica striker began. Now, it looks as though the Premier League runners-up are set to break their transfer record to land the 22-year-old.
Ornstein reports that nothing is yet signed and that the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement, but the fact personal terms have been met will be a major boost for Jurgen Klopp.
Structure of the Deal
Benfica are believed to want an upfront payment of €80 million with a further €20 million in performance-related add-ons. This would take the total to €100 million, around £85 million – £10 million more than Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
Klopp is looking for attacking reinforcements with the future of Sadio Mané, who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, and Mohamed Salah, who has also spoken of his future, in doubt.

Klopp believes that Nunez, who scored 34 goals in 41 appearances this season, would be a perfect fit in his already prolific attack, as he can play both centrally and out wide.

Nunez joined Benfica in 2020, signing from Almeria in a deal worth €24 million. If this move goes through, the Spanish club would receive 20 per cent of the transfer fee.
Of his 34 goals this season, Nunez netted twice against the Reds when the two sides met in the Champions League quarter-finals as Liverpool won 6-4 on aggregate.
