England manager Gareth Southgate has named West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen and Leicester City’s James Justin in his England squad for the Nations League fixtures against Hungary, Germany and Italy.
Aston Villa duo Tyrone Mings and Ollie Watkins will miss out, as will Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson despite playing regularly for the Champions League finalists.
England travel to Hungary first on Saturday, June 4 before travelling to Germany on Tuesday, June 7. The Three Lions will then host Italy and Hungary at Wembley on Saturday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 14 respectively.
Gareth Southgate Announces Latest England Squad
Newcomers and Returning Players
West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen has been rewarded for his impressive form this season with his first call-up to the senior squad. The 25-year-old has managed 12 goals and ten assists in 36 Premier League appearances this season as the Hammers finished in seventh place, narrowly missing out on European football.
Leicester’s James Justin is another player that could be receiving his first senior England cap in the Nations League fixtures. The versatile full-back has performed well in an injury-ravaged Leicester side that managed an eighth-place finish in the Premier League. The 24-year-old is capable of playing in either of the full-back positions, which will give him a good chance of making the field as the squad does not include any natural left-backs.
AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori returns to the squad following a successful campaign in Serie A. The 24-year-old was a key player for the Rossoneri on their way to clinching their first Scudetto in 11 years. Fellow centre-back Marc Guehi has retained his place in the squad following his first senior international cap for England against Ivory Coast on March 26.
Those Missing Out
Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho continue to be left out by Southgate, who instead favours Bowen and AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham.
Aston Villa duo Tyrone Mings and Ollie Watkins are both set to miss out too, despite both players getting on the score-sheet in the last international fixture against Ivory Coast. Emile Smith Rowe, a player who came off the bench in the fixture, will also miss out on adding to his England caps at this stage.
Tyrick Mitchell and Kyle Walker-Peters, two more players who were handed their first senior international caps in the fixtures back in March, will also not be returning to the squad.
