Report: Angel Di Maria Agree to Terms With Juventus
The Fit
First off, Juventus is saying goodbye to Paulo Dybala. He’s officially played his last home match for the club, and will play his last match this coming weekend. Dybala has been a mainstay in the Juventus attack for several years now, so his departure opens a major hole.
This is where Di Maria steps in. He’s 34-years-old, which explains the length of the contract, but can still contribute. In 25 Ligue 1 matches this season, while starting less than half of the matches, Di Maria holds four goals and seven assists to his name. These are very solid numbers, especially considering the depth PSG has up front. Just two seasons ago, Di Maria scored eight goals and provided 14 assists in 26 matches. Clearly he’s capable of creating his own chances, but specializes in creating chances for others.
This bodes well for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is now the center of the team’s project. He’s an incredible goal scorer, holding 24 goals to his name in 35 Serie A appearances this season (although many came with Fiorentina before transferring to Juventus in January).
Another winger for Juventus is young Italian Federico Chiesa. He spent the majority of this season injured, but remains immensely talented. He is definitely staying at the club.
Juventus is determined to have Vlahovic and Chiesa lead the way in their attack. Di Maria, however, temporary fills the void left by Dybala’s departure while also bringing in top veteran experience.
