Borussia Dortmund are close to finalising a Karim Adeyemi contract. Dortmund have no intention of including a release clause and Adeyemi’s contract will run to 2027, according to Fabrizio Romano. This is big news for the club as they just finalised a deal for German defender Nico Schlotterbeck as well. Dortmund, of course, have been searching for a new striker as it seems more and more likely that star player Erling Haaland will depart to Manchester City.
Borussia Dortmund Finalising Karim Adeyemi Contract
The Player and the Fit
Adeyemi is just 20-years-old and an up-and-coming German star in the Austrian Bundesliga. At the moment, Adeyemi is a Red Bull Salzburg player.
It’s safe to say Adeyemi broke out this season. In the Austrian Bundesliga, he holds 17 goals and three assists to his name in 26 appearances. He also wreaked havoc in the Champions League, scoring three goals and providing two assists in eight matches. Salzburg were not a guaranteed Champions League side this season and had to go through the qualifying matches as well. Adeyemi scored a goal in one of the two matches, helping the club make Europe’s most prestigious club tournament.
Last season, Adeyemi scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 27 Austrian Bundesliga matches. He’s clearly made massive strides as a player and will only improve at Dortmund.
All in all, it’s a good deal for both the club and the player. Dortmund, of course, get a promising replacement for Haaland. Adeyemi, on the other hand, arrives at a club with a knack for developing great strikers. Before Haaland, Dortmund aided in the progression and improvement of strikers such as Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The club develops all kinds of attacking players as well, and other examples include Christian Pulisic and Jadon Sancho as well, among others.
This is a match that makes perfect sense for both parties.
