Barcelona forward Memphis Depay has been approached by Premier League clubs for a potential summer deal, according to Fabrizio Romano. However, the player stated his wish to stay with the Spanish giants.
Premier League Clubs Make Approach to Barcelona Forward Memphis Depay
Barcelona Form Keeping Premier League Clubs on Alert
Memphis Depay returned from an injury at the end of February. Since then, he scored five goals in 12 fixtures for club and country, despite starting only five of them. It seems the forward is once again finding his best form. Apparently, that was also noticed by clubs in the Premier League, who have approached the player.
Memphis Depay joined Barcelona in the summer after a great season with Olympique Lyonnais. The forward scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in France during the 2020/21 campaign. Unlike many big transfers, Barcelona got the Dutchman for free, and the deal is paying off. Depay already has 11 goals and two assists in 24 games, starting just 17 of them.
As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Depay said: “I came here at Barcelona with the desire to play for the team – and of course I want to feel important here for several years.”
The Dutchman’s priority remains to stay in Barcelona for several more years
On his Camp Nou presentation, Memphis Depay revealed that his move to Barcelona was “a dream come true.” He seems to be ready to stick to his words and fight for his place in Xavi’s team. Still, he clarified that he wants to feel important in Barcelona. A lot of players are trying to occupy the three places in Xavi’s 4-3-3 formation. New stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Adama Traore are eager to start every game. Luuk de Jong, Ousmane Dembele, and the new golden boy Ansu Fati are also hoping to get as many minutes as possible.
It is clear that some of the offensive players will leave camp Nou in the summer and probably new faces will arrive. It is up to Memphis Depay to decide if he will fight for his place in Xavi’s team or return to England. He failed to impress in his first spell in the Premier League with Manchester United but now looks more ready to prove himself.
