Watford are close to sacking Claudio Ranieri, according to The Telegraph which will leave them looking for their 11th manager in seven years as The Pozzo family continue to hire and fire like a fairground gamer. The Watford owners are famous for their ruthless approach to managerial appointments so should they call time on Ranieri’s time after just three months it will come as little surprise to anyone, least of all the Watford fans.
Sacking Claudio Ranieri Starting to Look Inevitable
Sacking Would Be Harsh Given Lack of Time
Since Watford sacked Xisco Munoz after just seven games of the 2021/22 season, they turned to the Tinkerman himself in Claudio Ranieri, but apart from some positive results, a 4-1 win over Manchester United being a standout amongst them, they have lost 11 games in 14 since his arrival. And the turnaround in form has never arrived, leaving Watford in the bottom three. Their status as a yo-yo club looks like it could well be cemented once more.
As Watford came up against fellow strugglers Norwich City at Vicarage Road, they knew that a win would help give them confidence ahead of a huge relegation battle. Instead of victory, however, it was a surrender that saw Norwich win 3-0 and move out of the bottom three leaving Watford in the place they left behind.
Poor Form
Ranieri has delivered a worse run of form than any of the other Watford sackings with 11 defeats in 14 games. And with the season gearing up for its conclusion in four months time it looks like yet again, the club who must have revolving doors everywhere in their training complex, are about to welcome another new face through them. But who can they turn to next and more importantly, with little chance of a long term project, who would really want to take on what has becomes a poisoned chalice time and time again?
