Chelsea Are Club Set to Sign Dylan Williams
Derby County have reportedly accepted a bid for their full-back Dylan Williams with many touting the youngster to become an exciting wing-back. The player has caught the eye of Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel. On arriving at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel put his wing-back system in place and has had success with Reece James and Ben Chilwell as well as helping Marco Alonso to thrive once more. It was a system that was a key part of Chelsea winning the 2021 Champions League.
Derby Breakthrough
With Derby’s much publicised crisis leaving them short of players, Wayne Rooney has been able to give opportunities to young players and Williams has played eight times on the left-hand side. Mainly utilised as a left-back he has also shown his ability to play in midfield and that versatility is a characteristic that fits the bill for a side managed by Tuchel.
Fee Agreed for Derby County Starlet
The Athletic confirmed that although Rooney stopped short of naming the player Derby had agreed a fee with Chelsea for, that it is indeed Williams. Rooney had said on Friday 21 January:
“We have agreed a fee with a Premier League club for Dylan Williams.”
Rooney went on to say that he could not stand in the way of the player’s opportunity to join a Premier League club. It is thought that Williams will play for the Chelsea U23’s team and although his first-team chances may well be limited at first, he will be looking to the likes of James to break into the team and excel on one of football’s biggest stages.
