Genoa Have Sacked Andriy Shevchenko
Sacked After Just Two Months
Serie A side Genoa and Romano have both announced that former AC Milan and Chelsea striker Shevchenko has been sacked by the club despite him only taking charge just two months and eleven games ago. The under -17 coach Abdoulay Konko will now take charge as caretaker manager until the club find a suitable permanent replacement.
Poor Form
Shevchenko managed to win just one of eleven games in all competitions following his appointment on November 7th and his latest defeat came against the club where he is a legend in Milan as Genoa were beaten in the Italian Cup on Thursday 13th January.
A prolific goalscorer in his playing days, Shevchenko hasn’t seen that with Genoa who scored just three goals in nine Serie A matches which added to the poor results has left the hierarchy at Genoa with little choice but to sack their second manager of the 2021/22 season. Six defeats and no victories was far from the form that was expected when he was appointed and now Genoa just start to search for another new manager to turn their season around.
Genoa sit second from bottom and are five points from safety as the final months of the season begin. Fans had hoped for brighter times when in September 2021, 777 Partners, an American backer, took over the club but results have got worse Serie B is starting to loom large so the next managerial appointment cannot afford to go wrong.
