Erling Haaland Suggests Borussia Dortmund Future to be Decided
Decisions
The comments from Haaland, one of the hottest properties in world football right now, will have put the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid on red alert with ESPN also reporting that Dortmund want a decision on the players’ future by the end of January. Talks had already been scheduled for the week commencing January 17 between Alf-Inge Haaland, Erling’s father, and super-agent Mino Raiola over a new contract with the Bundesliga club, but now the player has spoken out things may start to move very quickly.
Release Clause
Haaland is already reported to be able to leave the club at the end of the 2021/22 season, as long as his €75 million release clause is triggered. Despite the relatively low valuation, there will then be the issue of wages to be discussed so it will not necessarily be an easy process but the top clubs will do all they can to land the star striker.
Speaking about interest in his client in 2021, Raiola said of a possible move: “Maybe this summer, maybe the summer after. But there is a big chance that Erling will leave this summer.”
Real Madrid are believed to be the front runners to sign Haaland as they look to also add Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe to their ranks, with the French strikers’ contract also set to expire at the end of the current season.
