Four Manchester United Players Set for Contract Talks, Including Paul Pogba
Jesse Lingard
Jesse Lingard looked likely to depart Old Trafford during the summer transfer window. In fact, West Ham United wanted to take him back after last season’s successful loan spell. However, the Englishman opted to stay put at Old Trafford instead of forcing a permanent move.
Lingard’s current deal will expire at the end of the season and Manchester United want to avoid losing him on a free. Earlier in the month, there were reports of him rejecting a contract offer. It Looks like Manchester United are coming back with a new offer now, however.
“He’s got one year left on his contract and the club is talking to him and his dad. We see him as a Man United player in the future,” said Solskjaer. Lingard’s stunning match-winning goal against his old club showed everyone his quality and the fans would definitely want him to stay.
Bruno Fernandes
In a very short time, Bruno Fernandes has become a key player at Manchester United. He has become something of a talisman for them in less than two years. Hence, the club want to reward him despite his current contract expiring in 2025. In fact, Manchester United consider his contract renewal a priority. With both sides positive, the midfielder should sign a new deal soon.
Paul Pogba
In the last couple of seasons, Manchester United fans have braced themselves for the likely news of Paul Pogba’s departure. First, he was linked with a move back to Juventus. This summer, Paris Saint-Germain were heavily linked with the Frenchman. With Pogba’s contract expiring at the end of the season, many expected him to run it down and leave on a free. However, recent reports suggest a change of heart with Pogba.
As per reports, he has been encouraged by the transfer activities of the club and is open to signing a new deal. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Pogba is “thought to be leaning towards staying at Manchester United after Cristiano Ronaldo’s superb second debut for the club” and that “recent events are believed to have had a profound effect on Pogba.” Only time will tell what happens with the world cup winner in the end.
Paul Pogba staying put would highlight just how good of job Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing at Old Trafford.
Luke Shaw
With his current deal set to expire in 2023, Manchester United need to tie Luke Shaw down to a new deal soon. The Englishman has had a superb 12 months and definitely deserves a new contract. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær considers him a crucial cog in his side for many years to come. So, an improved deal should see Shaw commit to the club for the foreseeable future.
Contract Talks Crucial
Manchester United fans long for the club to win the premier league once again. The 2012/13 season was the last time the Red Devils lifted the title. To get back to winning the league, they need to keep the quality players that they already have and add to the squad. There might be reservations about Lingard in some quarters but the other three are top quality. Manchester United fans would surely be ecstatic if they can tie these players down to new contracts this season.
