Chelsea to Target Aurelien Tchouameni Next Summer
Already Looked At
Tuchel did look at signing Aurelien Tchouameni this year but opted for a more experienced loan option in Saul Nigeuz. And, according to The Athletic, Chelsea felt that Tchouameni would benefit from a further season representing Monaco in Ligue 1. Chelsea will face tough competition if they reignite their interest next year though. The 21-year-old midfielder will only attract more interest for next year as he improves.
Since joining Monaco as a 19-year-old in 2020, Tchouameni has made 49 senior appearances. Alongside this, he is beginning his senior international career with France. Tchouameni has risen through the ranks of the French team, starting with the U16s. He now has three senior appearances and looks to be the future of the French midfield. Monaco paid £17 million for Tchouameni in 2020, and if interest like this continues, the French team will likely earn a hefty profit.
Likened to Paul Pogba
Tchouameni’s France teammate Paul Pogba heaped praise on the young midfielder, telling RTL: “Very, very good. He’s not a boy, he’s a man. It’s a pleasure to play next to him. He brings a lot of energy. A lot of energy, extraordinary technical and physical quality.”
Many have drawn comparisons between the two players. Both central midfielders are physically gifted with strength, height, and skill. The defensive attributes of Tchouameni are where he really shines through, however. He is an athletic defensive midfielder that can drive the ball forward. Therefore, the player would suit teams such as Chelsea or Manchester United, both of whom are overstacked offensively. Being especially gifted at protecting the defence and carrying the ball forward, Tchouameni offers a solid base to launch attacks from.
