Miralem Pjanic’s 2020 Move to Barcelona
Before joining Barcelona in La Liga, Pjanic spent around nine years in Serie A, first with Roma and then Juventus. Making over 100 appearances for his three clubs before Barcelona, Pjanic was a reliable option in midfield.
Pjanic didn’t have the best of spells in La Liga, making just 19 appearances under Ronald Koeman.
He did make 11 appearances across the cup competitions but it has been decided that he is not required at Barcelona for whatever reason. Pjanic failed to make a single goal contribution in his time with the Spanish giants.
Their current struggles are well-reported and they lost Lionel Messi on a free to PSG earlier this summer.
Pjanic has made 101 appearances for Bosnia & Herzegovina, including in a 1-1 draw with France in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
Champions League Football
In moving to the Turkish champions, Pjanic will continue to play Champions League football. He actually featured in all of Barcelona’s games in the competition last season. A player with plenty of experience, Pjanic will level up the Besiktas midfield.
Besiktas have been handed a tough little European group. They clash with Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon, German giants Borussia Dortmund and Eredivisie stalwarts Ajax.
Besiktas’ 2020/21 Turkish title was decided by their head-to-head advantage over Galatasaray after both finished on 84 points.
Attempting to defend their crown, they remain unbeaten this campaign after three games – two wins and a draw – sitting in third place.
Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi also made the move to Besiktas on loan recently.
