Valencia Sign Helder Costa
£25 Million Deal for Daniel James Opens the Door
Transfer deadline day often hinges on players leaving before others can come in and 31 August 2021 was no different for Leeds United. In 2019, the West Yorkshire club were close to signing Swansea City starlet Daniel James with contracts signed before everything fell through at the last minute.
This time, Leeds have got their man and that opened the door for Costa to move to Valencia.
Costa – Promotion Hero
Costa was an integral part of the Leeds team that finally earned promotion back to the Premier League. The winger joined Leeds in 2019 initially on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers and made 43 appearances, but he lost his place to Raphina and has struggled to break back into the team.
Hélder Costa moving to Valencia, continued a busy summer period for the Spanish side in the transfer market. Five senior players have been brought to the club by manager José Bordalás, with Brazilian centre-forward Marcos André, signed from Real Valladolid, the most high-profile.
Valencia have also been busy in terms of departures. Eight first-team players, including former Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala, have left the club this summer as Bordalás shapes his squad.
Costa made his Premier League debut against Liverpool on 12 September 2020 and scored twice against Fulham in a 4-3 home win.
Now his time at Leeds has come to an end, but he is a player who will give an option to Valencia. It is clear that, when at his best, the winger has cut through some teams with ease. To put it simply, it’s just about getting the best out of him. Do that, and you’ll have yourself an influential player.
