Deadline Day Sensation
Barcelona are in a mess when it comes to finances, having to shift players on just to make sure that their income to wage ratio comes down enough to meet financial fair play regulations. Lionel Messi has already moved on to Paris Saint-Germain and now another huge player in Griezmann is heading for the exit door initially on loan with an option to buy.
Griezmann Happy to Return to Atletico
Two years ago, Griezmann joined Barcelona for a staggering £108 million but has scored just 32 goals in 102 games for the Catalan giants, which was not good enough for the money he cost. Barcelona fans never really took to the French striker and oddly booed the player during a 2-1 win over Getafe.
Barca manager Ronald Koeman was left baffled by the fans reactions: “As a manager, I can’t understand whistling our own player. You could whistle him if he had a bad attitude or didn’t work hard, but Antoine had other difficulties in the game. He wasn’t as fortunate as we could hope, but it’s just one game. I can ask him for four goals… but we have not created chances for him, either. In addition, in the second half, we lost the ball a lot.”
Griezmann is now happy to get back to a club where the fans love him and will be looking to relax and get back to his clinical best.
