Move From Schalke Completed
With the transfer window drawing to a close, Mallorca have finalised a deal for Schalke player Matthew Hoppe on an initial one-year loan deal. It has been a busy couple of days for Mallorca as they have also brought in Kang-in Lee on a free transfer from Spanish side Valencia.
Hoppe’s medical took place on Tuesday 31st August and with no issues the loan deal has now been completed.
USA Striker
Despite Schalke’s financial plight and relation from the Bundesliga at the end of the 2020/21 season, Hoppe was a shining light, scoring six goals in 22 appearances including a sensational hat-trick against Hoffenheim which was the first to be scored ever in the German top league by an American.
Gold Cup
In the Gold Cup Hoppe showed his versatility by playing on the wing as well as a central striker, something that appealed to Mallorca.
Due to Schalke’s dire financial situation, Hoppe was a player immediately touted as someone whose sale could bring in much-needed cash for the club even though they were reluctant to sell a star asset.
Relegation
Schalke’s relegation has merely accelerated the departure of a player, who started his career via the residency academy programme at Barcelona based in the USA and will now return to Spain in a bid to show his full potential and will certainly be a player to watch in the season ahead.
